DOG GROOMING IN NEATH

Professional dog grooming shaped around the individual dog

No two dogs arrive at BARKERS with exactly the same coat, temperament, lifestyle or grooming history. That is why we do not believe in one size fits all grooming.

Our experienced team considers your dog's coat, condition, age, temperament, home maintenance and the finish you would like before deciding the best approach.

Full Groom

Our full groom is designed to take care of your dog's coat from start to finish while producing the polished result BARKERS is known for.

A typical full groom includes shampoo, facial, conditioner, leave in conditioning spray, blast and blow dry, brush out, full cut and style, nail trim, ear clean, cologne and a BARKERS signature bow.

We regularly groom Cockapoos, Cavapoos, Poodle and Bichon crosses, Cocker Spaniels, Schnauzers, Shih Tzus, Cavachons and many other small and medium breeds.

Most grooming appointments take around two hours, although dogs requiring additional scissoring, hand stripping, larger dogs or dogs needing extra support may need longer.

Bath and Tidy

A bath and tidy is ideal for maintaining your dog's coat and shape between full grooming appointments.

It typically includes shampoo, facial, conditioner, leave in conditioning spray, blast and blow dry, brush out, hygiene trim, face and feet tidy, nail trim, ear clean, cologne and a BARKERS signature bow.

Bath and tidy appointments usually take around an hour and a half, depending on the dog and coat.

Spaniel hand stripping

For suitable Spaniel coats, BARKERS offers traditional hand stripping. Hand stripping removes dead coat by hand rather than clipping it, helping to preserve the natural texture and appearance of an appropriate coat.

These appointments can take longer than a conventional groom, often up to around three hours depending on the dog and coat. We will advise whether hand stripping is appropriate for your particular dog.

Puppy grooming

The best time to build a positive grooming routine is before your puppy desperately needs a haircut.

Early visits allow puppies to become familiar with the salon, equipment, sounds, handling and sensations involved in professional grooming. We encourage owners to practise gentle handling of feet, ears, faces and bodies at home too.

Senior grooming

Older dogs may need a different grooming experience from the one they enjoyed when they were younger. Mobility, stamina, skin, coat, health and tolerance for standing can all change with age.

We adapt appointments wherever practical so that senior dogs can have the grooming they need with comfort and dignity in mind.

Additional handling and support

Some dogs need more than one pair of experienced hands. Where a dog requires additional support, we may arrange for two members of the BARKERS team to work together.

Additional handling appointments are assessed individually.

Nail clipping and additional services

Walk in nail clipping is one of our most popular smaller services. BARKERS also offers Emmi pet teeth cleaning and pet photography.

How often should my dog be groomed?

Most professionally styled dogs benefit from appointments approximately every four to eight weeks. The right schedule depends on breed, coat, chosen style, home brushing and the individual dog.

Grooming prices

Every dog is different, so we do not publish a full price guide. Grooming costs vary according to the individual dog and the appointment they need.

Breed, size, coat condition, chosen style, time required and additional handling needs can all affect the cost. Please contact BARKERS and tell us a little about your dog so we can provide more accurate pricing for their individual grooming requirements.

Longer coat maintenance

We love a longer, fluffy finish and are very happy to work with owners who want to maintain one. The important thing is matching the grooming schedule to the coat length and the individual dog.

The longer the coat, the more maintenance it needs. Depending on the length, coat condition and the amount of home care, we may recommend more frequent professional visits rather than waiting six or eight weeks between appointments.

Areas such as behind the ears, armpits, legs, chest, collar area and around a harness can knot particularly easily.

For longer styles, that may mean weekly or fortnightly bath and maintenance appointments alongside appropriate brushing and combing at home. The aim is not to put you off the style you love, but to create a routine that keeps the coat in good condition and your dog comfortable.
