NERVOUS DOG GROOMING IN NEATH
Grooming for dogs who need a little more understanding
If your dog is nervous, anxious, reactive or has struggled during grooming before, bringing them to a new groomer can feel daunting. You may already have been told that your dog is difficult.
That is not how we want you to feel when you speak to BARKERS.
Behaviour tells us something. A dog may be frightened, uncomfortable with a particular part of the process, affected by an earlier experience or simply unfamiliar with grooming. Our first job is to understand, not judge.

01 / INDIVIDUAL CARE
There is more to the appointment than finishing the haircut
When a dog needs additional support, the objective is not to simply get through the groom at any cost.
We look at how the dog responds throughout the appointment and try to identify the areas they are comfortable with and those creating concern. Where possible, these appointments are arranged during quieter periods.
We can adapt our handling, offer breaks and give the dog additional time to settle. If appropriate, another trusted member of the BARKERS team may assist.
No dog is forced through a process they are genuinely unable to cope with simply so that we can say the groom was completed.

02 / INDIVIDUAL CARE
Building trust over time
One appointment may not change years of anxiety. Progress often comes from regularity, predictability and allowing the dog to develop a relationship with people they recognise.
Over repeated appointments we can learn more about your dog's behaviour, preferences and triggers, while your dog learns what to expect from us.
Sometimes that means changing the style or modifying expectations while trust develops. The dog's welfare comes before achieving a particular haircut.
03 / INDIVIDUAL CARE
First time owners are welcome too
You do not need to know everything about grooming before contacting us. Part of our role is helping owners understand their dog's coat, brushing routine and professional grooming needs.
Matting happens. Home brushing can be confusing. Puppies change coat. Life gets busy.
Tell us what has happened and we will concentrate on what is best for the dog now.

04 / INDIVIDUAL CARE
Your dog's voice matters
Dogs cannot tell us in words when they are frightened, uncomfortable or overwhelmed. Their behaviour tells us.
We believe it is our responsibility as professional groomers to listen to those signals and respond appropriately. That is what we mean when we say that welfare always comes first.
